Creatures on the Keys

Best Blogger Tips

Within the Little Prayers... big things happen. I can sit on the wide porch among the flowers and potted trees and feel quite safe from the small creatures running around or hopping from leaf to leaf. Let one in the house and its a whole new world. Yesterday, a lizard was in the center, just before nap time. The worst time for little kids to get excited. Jessica ( a five year old) started screaming about an iguana in the room. More like a komodo dragon, which is what I think of lizards, and I was afraid. Hey, if they are in your house why can't they be as smart as the dinosaurs on the movies that learn to open doors and cabinets?

My first thought...Dang, where is a man when you need one? So I had to go to the only one I knew. I asked God to send someone or to help me get the little terror out of the center. My thought was to open the front door and hopefully sweep it out. Picking it up was not an option. Neither was killing it. So I got the broom, opened the front door and had just walked into the center when the doorbell rang and one of the little girl's dads walked in...(I'm singing now)Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise all you creatures here below... (a song from my Catholic days).

My other thought-- if God can save me from the dragon, what do I have to fear.

O.K. the farm life would not be for you. I've fought off so many creatures (shot some) until it has become par for the course. One thing I have learned that for the most part they are more afraid of you than you are of them.

However there was a mice incident several years back that sent my daughter and I screaming out into the cold wearing wearing pajamas. MY husband had to drive sixty miles to come and hunt him down. He was home less than five minutes and the mouse in a sticky trap. The culprit was just a very tiny baby & I cried because my husband couldn't free him from the trap.

Better than any man I know of is the Lord. You did right to trust in him to save you from the dragon.

No, the farm would have me running. When Karra was baby we lived near the tracks and one night I walked in the kitchen and thought a cat had gotten in. No, it was a wood rat --huge! and one was in the bathroom, they had come from under the hot water heater. I called my daddy and he came over with this very little gun. The mice were gone. Nedles to say that was my ast night there.

So funny, yet so true. We have had lizards infiltrate our house (Gabi calls them Isa the Iguana) and I have also felt the fear of getting them out... Luckily, I have a handy dog that will chase them out if I open the door. Considered a Golden Retriever?

We have a terrier. She would probably chase and kill. I would lose respect for her. Oh and she won't step foot across the threshold of the center so the lizard would probably laugh in her face.
