What's in a Color?

My daughter Karra has found a job that fits in with her classes for college. Within the small amount of time she has been there she has had the unfortunate problem of being on the hate list of a couple of women. These women have taken offense to her being younger (they thought she was even younger) and obviously because of the lightness of her skin. The funniest comment they made today was"how do you get your hair like that?" This is the second time they have asked this and she answered the same "It just goes like that." The girl wears her hair in all of its naked naturalness which equals to a bit of a curly afro.
I don't know what answer they wanted, so one went on to ask "What color are you mixed with?' she answered "Black and blacker." She was then told how rude she was being. What?
